Frequently Asked Questions

Price per Kg & Grams Calculation FAQs

Everything you need to know about calculating grocery weights, per-gram costs, and kirana budget conversions.

What is the formula to calculate price per gram from price per kg?▾

The mathematical formula is simple because 1 kilogram equals exactly 1,000 grams:

Price per Gram = Price per Kilogram ÷ 1000

Example: If 1 kg of whole wheat flour costs ₹45, then 1 gram costs ₹45 ÷ 1000 = ₹0.045. For 250 grams (1 pav), the price is 250 × 0.045 = ₹11.25.

How do I calculate how many grams I get for ₹50 or ₹100?▾

When you have a fixed budget and want to know how much quantity you receive, use this reverse formula:

Quantity in Grams = (Budget Amount in ₹ × 1000) ÷ Price per Kg

Example 1: Apples cost ₹120/kg and you give the vendor ₹50. Quantity = (50 × 1000) ÷ 120 = 416.7 grams.

Example 2: Paneer costs ₹360/kg and you have ₹100. Quantity = (100 × 1000) ÷ 360 = 277.8 grams.

How much is 1 Pav in grams and how do I calculate its price?▾

In all Indian states (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, UP, Bengal, Rajasthan, etc.), 1 Pav (पाव) is exactly 250 grams, which is one-quarter (1/4) of a kilogram.

To calculate the cost of 1 Pav, just divide the 1 kg rate by 4:

Cost of 1 Pav (250g) = 1 Kg Rate ÷ 4

If 1 kg of green chillies is ₹80, then 1 Pav is ₹80 ÷ 4 = ₹20.

What is the difference between Gross Weight and Net Weight?▾

Net Weight is the exact weight of the food or product itself excluding any container, bag, or packaging box. Gross Weight is the total weight of the product plus its container or cardboard box. Kirana stores and vegetable markets should always weigh products after zeroing out the container (tare weight) so you only pay for the net product weight.

Can this calculator be used for spices, tea, dry fruits, and bulk commodities?▾

Yes. This tool is universally applicable for any product measured by mass or weight, including loose spices (jeera, cardamom, cloves), cashews, almonds, pulses, rice, wheat, cement, hardware, sweets (mithai), and butcher shop meat.
